Ascend 06:13
(now that we've come so far, where do we go from here?) won't you whisper to me softly dear your the only sound I want to hear i'm vibrating to the beat of your heart as we lay down this heavy load entwine, tenderly explore empty canvasses fill with art (ooh whooo) gently tuned to our higher souls every place, intimately known we drift back and forth waiting to start.... again when we've connected, it feels like zen we can't pretend broken parts become whole again........ ascend now there's nothing left for us to fear joyous blissful, overcome by tears embracing, we can face the dark resting cozy in our warm bed peaceful slumber it fills our heads dreaming, drifting through distant stars (ooh whooo) in the morning all is serene birds of feather frolic & sing now prepared for our long time apart again when we're connected, this must be zen we can't pretend broken pieces come whole again........ ascend

New Tricks 06:45
she got lost now she forgot her name the place is different but the people they're the same she try bye and bye to get you high like a warm summer breeze she breathes her sigh she got lost but she still look the same sunlight trickles down upon her hair mixed up souls like us can't afford to care we climb up and down forgotten stairs while a train crossing river echoes through the air as sunlight trickles down upon her hair (chorus) i know why you walk alone when you needed to fly (to lift the souls around you) i know why you broke the chains that bound you washed sublime (it gathers all around you) ---------------------------------------- she got tossed now the memories remain where she run to no-one know her name she try bye and bye to make me right like a moonflower child, she prefer the night the paint is faded but the memories remain hazel blue green sparkles in her eyes once again i'm lost in her disguise we drive up and down forgotten roads with the rain beating heavy on our weary bones as hazel blue green sparkles in her eyes ----------------------------------------- (repeat chorus)

Chisel Away 04:58
chiseling the rock, yeah sculpting with wet clay painting with broad strokes just to cover up our decay running at full steam, yeah burning at both ends tearing down false walls just to build them back again (Chorus) searching for more space in my head confronting the fact that our journey must end wandering lost across this garden corrupted by man for gold lined pockets control in their hand blazing with big guns yeah shooting for the stars building bigger cages leaving deeper scars we paving over wetlands(farmlands) we fishing out the sea scraping mountain tops back spreading our disease (Chorus) searching for more space in my head confronting the fact that our journey must end wandering lost across this garden corrupted by man for gold lined pockets destroying our lands solo chiseling the rock, yeah sculpting with wet clay painting with broad strokes just to cover up our decay

Crooked 05:06
i tell myself i'm in a shadow just a little bit depressed perhaps this time I've realized i'm crooked like the rest ------------------------------------- i tell myself i'm uninspired fractured and incensed the older i get the more I realize I'm as crooked as the rest --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- i've tried to live a good life always lend a helping hand when i perceive a great injustice you know i'll always make a stand --------------------------------------- still i don't meet expectations when it comes to giving back i have acted selfish and uncaring so many times that i've lost track --------------------------------------------- and i'm as crooked as the rest -------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------- am i just another sucker getting played in this game we call life? deals undercover forces undiscovered deliver.... our daily strife feeling disconnected bending my reflexes instinctually i strike biting full of venom for intrusion's constant dread reflects upon my spirit psyche cynical to a fault sculpted with tainted asphalt I crack and buckle from the weight of the world undignified crumbling before your eyes future so bright pull the shades(turn the page) pull the shades(turn the page) pull the shades(turn the page) sometimes its hard to stand up straight even when you've done your best as crooked as the rest

about

Returning to our roots in the Pacific Northwest in 2009 inspired a surge of songwriting creativity that would lay the foundation for the 'Zen & The Art Of Bicycle Riding' recordings. After a few months of writing, we invited good friend and Portland music maestro Tim Proctor(The Punctuals) along to play a few shows including a big Oregon State Fair gig that summer. He ended up sticking around, eventually co-writing two of the new album's tracks while contributing invaluable musicianship in the form of organs, piano, vocals, guitars and whatever else we could throw at him.

In September 2011 we met San Diego native and drummer Tyler Pinto(Rodeo Clowns) who brought along bassist Nick Haas(The Real) effectively completing the lineup that would play and work together over the coming year in preparation for the recording of the ZATAOBR album. ZenT played a slew of live shows around town in first half of 2012(Tiger Bar, Mt Tabor Theater, Kelly's Olympian and Ash Street Saloon among others)before once again returning to our ZenDen in SE Portland to begin recording.

Trent Berry returned to the mix in March 2013, traveling north to meet us for a festive weekend in Portland to kick off the 'Zen & The Art Of Bicycle Riding' studio sessions. Recorded and mixing continued through the summer with various members swapping songs in a communal style. In October 2013, the completed tracks where sent back to Trakworx Studios for final mastering by Justin Weis.

'Zen & The Art Of Bicycle Riding' is divided into two acts entitled 'Yin' and 'Yang' with an Interlude featuring an excerpt from Robert F. Kennedy's speech on the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr from April 4th, 1963. The Yin act includes the tracks 'Lost In The Woods', 'Autumn Song' and 'Ascend' which are characterized as softer, yielding and more feminine in nature; with over riding themes of human connection, love and loss. The Yang act includes the tracks 'New Tricks', 'Chisel Away' and 'Crooked' which are considered to represent a harder, focused and more masculine exploration on subjects ranging from capitalist corruption to mental illness. We consider 'Zen & The Art Of Bicycle Riding' as a musical performance piece. It is not meant to spawn radio singles, permeate pop culture or be consumed in commercially digestible bites. This work should be experienced as one would take in a night at the symphony, ballet, theater or opera. We invite you, our fellow tribesmen and women, to listen wholeheartedly and with attention to detail. Be embraced by each note and enveloped in every moment; becoming one with the music, one with the mood and one with the message contained within. ~Namaste~
